Business Days Calculator

How to Use This Calculator

Enter your start date and end date, then press Calculate to see how many business days between two dates fall in that span. By default the tool counts a standard Monday-Friday week and includes both the start and end date, so a Monday-to-Friday range returns 5 working days. Open More options to switch to a Monday-Saturday (6-day) or full 7-day week, stop counting the end date, or subtract public holidays that land on a working day. It works like an online NETWORKDAYS calculator: it skips weekends automatically so you never have to count weekdays by hand.

What counts as a business day?

A business day (also called a working day) is any day a typical office is open - Monday through Friday in the United States. Saturdays and Sundays are excluded, and so are public holidays your workplace observes. This working days calculator excluding weekends and holidays counts only the days people actually work, which is why it usually returns a smaller number than a plain calendar-day count. Knowing the difference matters whenever a deadline is quoted in business days: shipping estimates, check-clearing windows, notice periods, refund timelines, and project schedules are almost always measured in workdays, not calendar days. If you have ever wondered how many working days in a month, or how many business days until a due date, this is the count you need.

How business days are calculated

The math is a filtered day count:

Business days = (working weekdays in the range) - (holidays on working days)

The calculator steps through every date from your start to your end, keeps each day whose weekday is part of your chosen work week (Mon-Fri, Mon-Sat, or all 7), and drops the rest. It then subtracts any public holidays you entered that fall on a working day. This is the same logic spreadsheets use for the NETWORKDAYS function, so the result matches what you would get in Excel or Google Sheets.

Examples

Example 1 - a calendar month. From January 1 to January 31, 2024 there are 31 calendar days but only 23 business days once the 4 Saturdays and 4 Sundays are removed.

Example 2 - a two-week sprint. A project that runs Monday through the Friday two weeks later spans 12 calendar days but exactly 10 business days of work.

Example 3 - subtracting a holiday. Counting business days between two dates excluding holidays: if a 23-workday month contains one public holiday that lands on a Tuesday, the tool returns 22 business days.

Tips for accurate results

- Match the work week to your situation. Retail and hospitality often run Monday-Saturday; use the 6-day option so Saturdays count.
- Decide whether the end date counts. Legal and shipping deadlines sometimes exclude the final day - switch *Count the end date too?* to No to count weekdays between two dates without the endpoint.
- Only subtract holidays that fall on a workday. A holiday that lands on a Saturday is already excluded, so don't double-count it.
- Reverse dates are fine. If you enter the later date first, the calculator still returns the correct span.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I count business days between two dates?
Enter the start and end date and press Calculate. The tool counts every Monday-Friday in the range and skips weekends automatically, so you get the number of business days between two dates without counting weekdays by hand. Use More options to exclude holidays or change the work week.
Does this business days calculator exclude holidays?
Yes. Because US public holidays vary by employer, you enter how many holidays fall on a working day inside your range and the calculator subtracts them. That gives you working days excluding weekends and holidays in one step.
Are the start and end dates both counted?
By default yes - both the start and end date are included, so Monday to Friday returns 5 business days (the same as Excel's NETWORKDAYS). If your deadline excludes the final day, switch Count the end date too? to No.
How many working days are in a typical month?
Most months have 20 to 23 business days on a Monday-Friday schedule. A 31-day month that starts on a Monday, like January 2024, has 23 working days, while a shorter or weekend-heavy month can dip to 20.
Can I count a 6-day or 7-day work week?
Yes. Open More options and choose Monday-Saturday for a 6-day week (only Sundays are skipped) or All 7 days to include every day. This is handy for retail, hospitality, and shift schedules where Saturday is a normal workday.
